You’ve built your invention, given it the protection that it needs, and now you’re ready to get it into the hands of your customers. You may choose to start your own company, which means doing it all: building the organization, developing the product, establishing customer relationships, and creating a profitable operation. Or you may decide to license your invention to someone else in exchange for royalty payments. You are essentially “renting” your idea to a large company that has all of the pieces in place to get it into the market quickly.

These are complex decisions that require consideration of how much time, money, risk, and effort you are willing to commit.
